Vernissage: 29th of April 2011, Candyland (Stockholm)

Logiiraz Ganbat, the artist of “Dirt Maché”, has been investigating Mongolia’s traditional technique of papier-mâché since 1991 but Ganbat is originally from Mongolia. This technique used to be applied for Buddhist sculptures but has been banned by the communist regime since the 20’s.

Through interviews with elderly monks has Logiiraz Ganbat been able to develope a technique that can be compared with the one that was used for hundreds of years ago. He works with both traditional Buddhist sculptures and experimental ones and for this exhibition he displays papier-mâché made of various natural material such as white pepper, hair, grass and red capsicum.
