I AM LIVING AND FEELING IT

Artist talk: Sanna Pelliccioni (Finland)

We first stumbled on the joyful design of Bombo at Scandinavian Deko blog and became curious about the work and the designer behind it. Today we’ve learned that Bombo means bumblebee (in italian) and is designed by Sanna Pelliccioni, a Finnish illustrator a graphic designer. The latest collection “OMA PERHE – MY FAMILY” is a praise for magical childhood — and was born out of need to widen the idea of a family from the traditional one to all possible forms of families. As the designer herself puts it:

“Isolated Finland of my grandmother’s time is changing to a joyful and open-minded place where new ways of life are greeted with joy”

THE HIDDEN SECRETS OF CREATIVE MINDS

Net stroll: 4th of April 2012, Hvass & Hannibal (Denmark)

Hvass & Hannibal is a Copenhagen based multi-disciplinary arts and design studio founded in 2006 by Nan Na Hvass and Sofie Hannibal. Their work is highly imaginative as it creates alternate environments featuring multitudes of patterns paired with geometric shapes, colorful forms and enchanting creatures.

In 2010, the design duo were invited to visit LAFA, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts — one of the top art academies in China. These colorful and resourceful work are the result of their one-week workshop with 80 undergraduate students from the school.

Photographs are taken from Hvass & Hannibal website

The dynamic duo designed an event — based on the concept of the meal. Or as they have described:

” … Considering the cultural diversity in table setting and culinary traditions, we felt that the meal as a theme could serve as a huge resource of visual inspiration: Anywhere in the world, visual presentation of food is an important part of serving a meal – both with regards to the food itself but also to the decoration of the table. We asked the students to let go of convention and imagine what a meal can be. So the assignment was to create a plate of food made out of only paper. The result was a huge paper dinner feast at a table with seats for all 80. A banquet meant to mimic the symbolic meals we know from milestones in life and in history …”

Although their roots are in illustration, Hvass & Hannibal does not only creates illustrations and graphics. They absorb in assorted mediums; ranging from three-dimensional work, interior and set design — to intricate artworks made up of varied materials.

I encourage all of you to dig deeper into the hidden secret world of these creative souls!

VILLA CONTEMPORARY ART

On-going: 8th of July – 27th of August 2011, Pop-up store at Galleri Jonas Kleerup (Stockholm)

A few years ago I first heard about pop-up market in my hometown, Reykjavik. Shortly after, the concept of pop-up expanded with pop-up stores, pop-up galleries and pop-up restaurants. And pop-up is popular.

Villa Contemporary Art recently opened their second pop-up store, dedicated to contemporary artists. The store provides a great selection of original work, prints, publications, sculptures and other art work by artists from all around the globe. Even on a grey Monday afternoon, the pop-up store was filled with curious tourists, art lovers and ordinary citizens. No wonder — the window display alone was enough to seduce most strollers.

The atmosphere inside the pop-up store was nothing compared to a general gallery visit. The sensation was rather like being a kid at the amusement park — surrounded by exiting toys and colorful candy — and more than willing to break the piggy bank open.

We are already looking forward to the next pop-up conceptual art store!

“DREAMS OF SALIKON”

Vernissage: 15th of April 2011, Meeting ROOM (Stockholm)

The beautiful illustrations of Lindalovisa Fernqvist was the center of the attention during this night combined with art, fashion, music and wine.

Fashion-drawings encounter the dark shadows of a forest in these illustrations were the artist special touch of details made the exhibition both majestic and captivating.

A Konsthopp favorite was a film-clip made by Lindalovisa, showing the art-work in process. At some point almost hypnotizing but at the same time a really interesting insight into the artistical procedure of this talented young woman.
