FAREWELL EDEN

Vernissage: 25th of August 2011, Christian Larsen (Stockholm)

“Farewell Eden” — the highlight of an overall great “opening” night.

In this exhibition the artist, Christian-Pontus Andersson, draws attention to himself and those he hold most deeply to his heart — his mother, father, former boyfriends — in companion with ravens, swans and lambs.

In my attempt to describe the “message” behind the exhibition more carefully, I have decided to lean on Sara Skoglund’s words:

We are reminded that everything we encounter is a fictitious alias — the sculptures are doll-like, the animals are lifeless fragments of lives that are no longer; the cold harsh surface of the metal instruments is in stark contrast and makes itself felt. Suddenly the weight being carried on the shoulders is embraced. Suddenly safety appears as an illusion. Suddenly, we see what it really is.

Christian-Pontus Andersson is known for his outstanding sculptural work and his creation of a new dynamic perspectives on sculpture as an artistic medium. The artist was born in 1977 and graduated from the ceramics and glass department of Konstfack. He has exhibited at the National museum in Stockholm and has participated in group exhibitions in Tokyo, München and Milan.

The story says that Andersson hesitated between studying plastic surgery or becoming an artist — ending up being one of the most notable Swedish sculptor of his generation.

DONALD BAECHLER

Vernissage: 14th of May 2011, Lars Bohman Gallery (Stockholm)

Direct from Young Art, we headed to an opening with world-known artist. Donald Baechler was the man. His unique sculptures are a combination of the childlike and the ancient. He portrays things from every day life, like trees, plants, ice cream cones and balls. The sculptor is naturally engaged to line and form, besides that his main focuses are surface, texture and spatial dimension.
